Ha! Another week, another twist and turn in the race for divisional titles. Stanford, coming off a big win against Oregon goes to LA and loses a close one to a resurgent USC. And that changes a lot. Now, Oregon is back in the power position in the Pac-12 North division...sitting there with only one loss coming off a whupping of Utah and Stanford now with 2 losses. So, if the Ducks win out, they win the North. Stanford would need a win vs. Cal and then a loss by UO to either Arizona or Oregon State to win the North.
And, don't look now, but the Ducks are up to #5 in the BCS rankings. A few losses by teams in front of them and they could end up in the National Championship game.
Meanwhile, ASU took steps to solidify its South division quest. WSU rose up and beat Arizona in a nicely played game, inching them one win away from bowl eligibility. And UCLA did itself proud with a win over the UW in a really good game that - but for a couple early turnovers - could have gone the other way.
Here's what I think will happen in the upcoming games...
#5 Oregon (9-1, 6-1) vs. Arizona (6-4, 3-4) in Tucson. The Wildcats usually play UO tough, particularly in Tucson. But I think the Ducks are back on track and, well, UA just isn't that good. So, I say Ducks win. UO 41-UA 21.
Washington (6-4, 3-4) vs. Oregon State (6-4, 4-3) in Corvallis. UW may not have its starting QB, and even if they do he's not 100 percent. Throw in the Dawgs propensity to not rise to the occasion, that this game is in Corvallis and the Beavs are not a bad squad and I say Husky woes continue. OS 31-UW 24.
WSU (5-5, 3-4) vs. Utah (4-6, 1-6) in Salt Lake City. Check out the Cougs! A big win last week vs. UA. The Utes are better than their league record and this one could be tough. I think Utah wins. UU 33-WSU 23.
#7 Stanford (8-2, 6-2) vs. Cal (1-10, 0-8) in Palo Alto. This one won't be close. Stanford wins big. Stanford 31-Cal 13.
#17 ASU ( 8-2, 6-1) vs. # 14 UCLA (8-2, 5-2) in Los Angeles. Perhaps the best game of the week with lots at stake. The winner is the driver seat for the South title. The loser is more than likely out of it. I'm going for the upset here. UCLA 34-ASU 29.
#23 USC (8-2, 6-2) vs. Colorado (4-6, 1-6) in Boulder. USC continues their resurgence with an easy win. USC 44-CU 21.
